A display by the London Fire Brigade and Auxiliary Fire Service in the presence of Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Kent described by Thomas Woodrooffe and John Snagge from Hyde Park.
This afternoon thousands of people will be assembled between Hyde Park Corner and Marble Arch to witness one of the greatest fire displays that London has ever seen. The Fire Brigade and the London Auxiliary Fire Service will be represented by their crack men, and every type of modern fire-fighting appliance will be seen in action. A special wooden tower representing a four-storey house has been built for the occasion, and when it has served its various purposes as a scene of activity, it will be burnt down in the final fire scene.
Commentators Thomas Woodrooffe and John Snagge will be on the spot to bring listeners an account of operations. Commentaries on the last half-hour of the afternoon's programme (the whole of which, by the way, is being televised) will be broadcast. The items to be described are an emergency heavy unit display which includes an arch of water from eight hoses, escape rescues in which dummies will be dropped from the top of the tower to be caught by firemen below, the extinguishing of petrol fires by chemical foam, a display of horse-drawn manuals, drill with the marvellous turn-table ladders, and finally the burning of the tower and the extinguishing of the blaze by trailer pumps.

The Story of America's Special
Agents
Written by Travis Ingham
Produced by William N. Robson
Prepared and recorded by the New
York Office of the BBC
This is the third feature programme from New York this year. Its author, Travis Ingham , will be remembered for his ' Crosstown New York', which was produced by William N. Robson and heard in Britain earlier this year. As in the case of No Help Wanted, all the actors in G-men Against Crime have been drawn from the radio division Of the Federal Theatre Project of the W.P.A.
Ingham and Robson ihave had the full assistance of the Federal Board of Investigation in preparing this programme. This Board is to America very much as Scotland Yard is to this country.
In this evening's programme you will hear how the great war of authority against social outlawry is being waged in the States.
An article on the work of the G-men, specially written for the RADIO TIMES by J. Edgar Hoover , Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Department of Justice, will be found on page 10
