★ by An Old-Timer
On January 4 an old trouper, who had been forty years in the business, gave the first ' Leaves of Memory ' programme under the pseudonym of ' Old-Timer ' and talked to listeners about the old days and old-time music-hall songs, remembered by some, forgotten by others, and unheard by many-old songs that he sang before the microphone.
The programme was his own idea.
He believed that he could put over an entertainment without the use of a name. His fan mail which grew and grew proved him right. He gave a dozen broadcasts and then went off the air. His fan mail keeps on coming.
This afternoon for the first time he is to broadcast on a Sunday, and he will be on the air for the next three Sundays at any rate. Many of the songs he will sing date as far back as 1840 and have been sent to him by listeners.
