(Section D)
Leader, Paul Beard
Conducted by Basil Cameron
David Moule Evans 's tone poem 'Cliff Castle' was completed in 1935. The work derives its title from a rugged spot on the Cornish coast. Although the music does not illustrate any definite programme, the composer has endeavoured to reflect in terms of music some of the grimness and grandeur of a scene in which the surge of the Atlantic is predominant.

Leader, Burton Gillis from the May Fair Hotel
Henry Hall 's Music Makers started at the May Fair Hotel in April this year, and are playing there every night except on Sundays.
Practically every number played by the Music Makers is specially orchestrated by Burton Gillis. Gillis has been with Henry Hall for ten years. He led Henry Hall 's band at Gleneagles, and was with him when he formed the BBC Dance Orchestra. He has been with Henry Hall 's stage band on tour, and only left to take up the position at the May Fair. He plays first saxophone in the combination.
