from St. Margaret's, Westminster
Herbert Dawson Elgar's First Organ Sonata, Op. 28, was ' composed for the visit of some American musicians to Worcester
Cathedral in July, 1898'. Writing on this work in 1922, Ernest New-man said that ' it is a fine work, full of originality, and, although rather difficult in parts, extremely effective on the organ '. Each movement is based on its own distinctive themes, with the exception of the finale which contains an interesting reminiscence of the chief theme of the slow movement.

' Plant Protection and Improvement'
C. F. LAWRANCE
The glory of the English spring garden depends almost entirely upon efficient bulb culture. When the daffodils, crocuses, tulips, narcissi, hyacinths, and other spring flowers are not giving of their best the fault may lie in a number of directions.
This afternoon C. F. Lawrance will talk about the whole question of bulb culture, telling you how ground should be prepared and how manured, how to tell good bulbs from bad, and how and where to plant the selected bulbs for the best effects.
