Frank Laffitte (pianoforte) Frank Laffitte, who is a frequent and popular broadcaster, is combining with the French violinist Andre Asselin in a programme that is notable for the inclusion of two outstanding sonatas by French composers. Andre Asselin is one of the most distinguished French violinists of today. Born in Paris in 1895, he studied under several well-known French violinists, including Lucien Capet. Broadcasting Union
For two years past there has been broadcast a programme of New Year good will between nations. The broadcast this year will consist of the spoken greetings of twenty-three European countries. The various countries will greet the world in their own languages, and there will follow in each case a peal of the most famous bells in that land.
Among the notable European chimes that will be heard will be those of Cologne Cathedral in Germany, Roskilde Cathedral in Denmark, Notre Dame in Paris, St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin, St. Veits Cathedral in Prague, and the well-known London carillon of St. Clement Danes.

This evening, on the eve of ' Dog
Licence Day ', R. M. Montgomery , owner of Scruffy, the celebrated film dog, is going to give a broadcast specially for ' man's first friend'. The broadcast will come from Montgomery's kennels at Worplesdon, and he will put his own dog Brenda through a number of obedience tests. Dog owners, it is hoped, will see that their pets are hard by the radio to see if they recognise their own names and the various familiar sounds that the broadcaster will put across.

Part 12-'The End of the Story '
Characters

The scene is Holland in the fifteenth century
Gerard's marriage to Margaret was interrupted at the altar, and he was compelled to flee from Holland by the enmity of the Burgomaster, Ghysbrecht van Swieten. In Rome he receives a letter giving him false news of Margaret's death, and in despair throws himself into the Tiber. He is saved from drowning and enters the Church, becoming Brother Clement.
On his way to England Gerard preaches in Rotterdam, where he sees Margaret, as he thinks, in a vision. He is called to shrive the dying Ghysbrecht van Swieten, who promises to make restitution to Margaret for an ancient wrong done to her family.
Gerard goes to Gouda, where he lives as a hermit in a cave. Here he is visited by Margaret, but resists all her entreaties to go back to her. When Margaret has left him, Gerard finds an unknown child in his cave.
