This is the second of six talks on bridge by Hubert Phillips , who is known to bridge players everywhere as writer, player, and administrator. He has been for the past five years Editor of The British Bridge World and bridge expert of the News-Chronicle. He is co-author with Terence Reese of the authoritative ' Elements of Contract '. As player he is captain of the ' British Bridge World ' team and captained England in last year's official international match. Debroy Somers
The first personality to broadcast in this interesting series is best known to listeners as the creator and leader of the original Savoy Orpheans. While Debroy Somers was at the Savoy many who have since become famous played under his baton, including Rudy Vallee , Van Phillips , and Carroll Gibbons. But his big reputation in the world of jazz was not won in a night. Listeners will be interested to hear how Debroy Somers began.
