Sir Stephen Tallents ,
Controller, Public Relations
The BBC wants to know what programmes listeners enjoy most, and at what times they can best listen. But this is not a simple matter. Every listener knows what he likes, and when he is free to listen. But there are millions of listeners in the country, and nearly as many different tastes and daily time-tables as there are listeners.
New ways have lately been devised by the BBC for taking listeners into its counsels. Tonight Sir Stephen Tallents is to have a word with listeners about them.
A Programme of Dance Music from New York by Joe Marsala and his Chicagoans
Compere, Alistair Cooke
Joe Marsala's Band is the only band in New York playing in the old Chicago style. It is surprising how many of the great ones have wanted to join his band. All sorts of people drop into his Sunday Swing Sessions and beg to play.
Today's programme, which is being compered by a man who was one of the most successful of British broadcasters before he went to America, has been specially arranged for the BBC. Among numbers that are to be played will be "Blues in B flat" and "Singin' the Blues", and, it is hoped, "Muskrat Ramble", "Jazz Me Blues", and "‘Clarinet Marmalade".
