Round the Countryside
'The' Fight for Food'
C. C. GADDUM
Mr. Gaddum will talk about the various ways that animals have adopted to ensure that they and their young shall not starve for want of food. He will talk about animal territories. Some animals have their own food-hunting centres, which they guard with the utmost care, and woe betide any other animal of the same species that happens to trespass on their preserves. Finally he will talk about how easy it is to upset the balance of nature by killing animals, thus putting out of gear nature's delicate mechanism for regulating the food supply.

A programme of Sailor Songs, Shanties, and Waltzes from Stockholm*
Karin Juel (vocalist)
Harry Brandelius (vocalist)
Olle Johnny (accordion)
This programme will bring listeners a number of sailor ditties and shanties, of which some are international. It will also bring them something very typically Swedish-the sailor waltz, a dance with a very marked rhythm of a quick waltz character. The sailor waltz is a very popular dance in Sweden, and when played as it should be, it is always played on the accordion. This instrument is immensely popular in Sweden. On board ships, on landing-stages, or in empty barns in the country, people come together in the long and light summer evenings to dance these sailor waltzes and other dances to the music of an accordion. The sound of this instrument is a typical feature of Swedish summer life in the country.
Mrs. Karin Juel, who will sing some of the sailor songs in the programme, is well known in Sweden for her singing of old and new sailor songs and waltzes.
