An appeal on behalf of LOWESTOFT AND NORTH SUFFOLK HOSPITAL DEVELOPMENT FUND, by CHRISTOPHER STONE , D.S.O., M.C.
For over a century the town of Lowestoft has maintained a hospital for the benefit, in the main, of its seafaring population. The fishing industry is always a precarious occupation, but the fisher folk have seen to it that the needs of their hospital have been more or less supplied. Since the war it has been necessary to find £10,000 every year to run the hospital, and in spite of severe depression existing in the area of Lowestoft and North Suffolk, this comparatively large sum has been met annuallv.
But now the hospital is faced with a capital expenditure of at least £20,000 for urgent structural alterations and additions, including a nurses' home, now being built and very badly required.

A short programme from the birthplace of Dr. Johnson in Lichfield

This programme, to be broadcast from the house in which Dr. Johnson was born, was arranged for September 12, a few days before the 128th anniversary of his birth (September 18, 1709), but it had to be postponed. Moray McLaren will be discovering for himself a famous literary shrine and giving his own picture of it. Sounds from the city of Lichfield will be introduced and some local people will speak. There has been only one broadcast from the Johnson house before.
