Domenico Cimarosa, an eighteenth-century Neapolitan composer, secured world-wide fame with his operas. His biggest success was The Secret Wedding, which was first performed in 1792 before Leopold II at Vienna, where Cimarosa was at that time Court Kapellmeister. The music of this opera still retains its freshness and brilliance, which are reflected to the full in the Overture. In style Cimarosa's music, with its inexhaustible flow of simple and charming melodies, has much in common with that of Mozart.
Harriet Cohen comes from a musical family. Her father has specialised in the military band and its music, and before she was twelve had taught his daughter how to score for full orchestra. Miss Cohen then went to the Royal Academy of Music and studied under Tobias Matthay and afterwards had a few lessons from Busoni. At the age of seventeen she played before Sir Henry Wood , and he engaged her for the Proms. Among the many distinguished artists with whom she has played are Casals, Tertis, and Sammons.

In the Rain Forest (Guiana)

Talks this term will follow the summer sun and will be given about those places where days are lengthening while ours in Britain grow shorter. Listeners will sail to the tropic seas and reach the insect-haunted gloom of the South American forest, and then come out into the glaring sunlight of the campos. They will climb the High Andes and go down to the Pacific, and when they have travelled the whole length of South American plains, they will take to the son again and hear how the longest summer day of December is spent in the Antarctic.
Last week listeners were in the tropic seas ; today Clifford Collin son, a favourite with schools, and Paul Richards , one of the naturalists of the 1929 Hingston Expedition to British Guiana, are to conduct them through a 'rain forest '. They will meet land crabs, Howler monkeys, sloths, and humming birds, and explore the two different worlds in British Guiana-first on the ground, and then among the tree-tops.

Brother Adam and R. Gamble
It will interest beekeepers, and all interested in beekeeping, to know that the well-known broadcaster Reginald Gamble , chairman of the Mid-Herts Beekeepers' Association, is bringing to the microphone Brother Adam , the world-famous beekeeper of Buckfast Abbey. In today's broadcast they are cutting out the technical side of beekeeping and concentrating on the generalities of the Abbey, the monks, and the Buckfast bees. At a later date Mr.
Gamble hopes to bring Brother Adam along" for a technical discussion.
Brother Adam has been in charge of the bees at Buckfast Abbey since 1919. They now have four hundred stocks, and he has only one helper. All the machinery is his own invention, and he has a special type of hive. He is one of the world authorities on beekeeping, and Buckfast heather honey is world-famous. He is on the Rothamsted Bee Committee.

Once again listeners are to go over to the Palace of Varieties and listen to a tip-top bill introduced in the way that has become characteristic of this radio music-hall. The many admirers of ' Palace of Varieties' will be pleased to hear that on October 16 it will be broadcast with a slightly new method of presentation, and that from that date onwards it will be given regularly every alternate Saturday night.
