The Autumn Show
C. H. Middleton and Col. F. R. Durham
Year by year the outstanding horticultural event of the autumn is the Royal Horticultural Society's Show, which was held this year at Olympia from last Wednesday, September 29 to October 1. The demand for space for all classes of exhibits exceeded that at either of the past two shows -the frontage of the exhibits covering nearly two miles. Dahlias, roses, gladioli; stove and greenhouse plants; vegetables and exhibits of fruit ; trees and shrubs ; plants for the herbaceous border and rock garden ; educational exhibits by the staff of the Society's experimental gardens at Wisley. This afternoon C. H. Middleton (broadcasting once again on Sundays) is to bring to the microphone Colonel Durham, President of the Royal Horticultural Society, to discuss the great autumn flower show which has just taken place.

Leader, Mimi Brennand
Conductor, Serge Krish from the People's Palace,
Mile End Road
Serge Krish founded the New Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra in 1934 for the purpose of giving symphony concerts in the East End of London, and thus providing that part of the city with the equivalent of Queen's Hall. In December of that year the orchestra gave its first concert at the Trocadero, Elephant and Castle, with great success. The orchestra consists of eighty musicians of both sexes, the majority of whom are good orchestral musicians who, for many economic reasons, have found it difficult to practise their profession within recent years. The Metropolitan Orchestra, through continual rehearsal under the experienced baton of Serge Krish , attains an excellent ensemble, and its progress is also assisted by the active co-operation of many of the leading British singers, violinists, and pianists.

An appeal on behalf of THE ROYAL VICTORIA HOSPITAL,
BELFAST by the Most Hon. the Marquess of LONDONDERRY, K.G.
The Hospital was opened in 1903 -with 300 beds. Since then 136 beds have been added without any general appeal to the public for funds. Today, however, the existing 436 beds fall very far short of meeting the demands upon them, and there is a resultant waiting list of more than 1,500 people.
The ' Coronation Extension'
Special Appeal for £100,000 has as its object the enlargement of the existing wards to accommodate 102 additional beds and the provision of other buildings and equipment coincident with the scheme of extension. £45,000 has been received: Y55,000 is still needed.
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged, and should be addressed to [address removed]
