at the organ of the Picture House,
Glasgow
Although Frank Olsen , one of Glasgow's favourite cinema organists, was only four years old at the outbreak of the last war, he had already begun music lessons. A year later he was organist at Holy Trinity Church, Grimsby, a post that he held for five years before being transferred at the venerable age of ten to another church. At the age of eighteen he began playing the cinema organ at a picture house in Peterborough. Since then he has been stationed in the North of England and Scotland.

Under 30's v. Over 30's
A commentary during play by Howard Marshall from Lord's
The Under 30 team, captained by F. R. Brown , of Surrey and England. will have such young representative cricketers in their team as Denis Compton and Len Hutton ; while the Over 30's, captained by Walter Hammond , Gloucester and England captain, will put into the field such veteran giants as Leslie Ames and Stan Nichols.
Many of the cricketers in both teams will have changed from khaki or light blue into flannels.
Not a first-class match, perhaps, in the official sense of the term, but first-class cricket nevertheless.

played by The Virtuoso String Quartet:
Marjorie Hayward (violin), Edwin Virgo (violin), John Yewe Dyer
(viola), Cedric Sharpe (cello)
The ' Biscay ' Quartet is probably the best known of McEwen's string quartets. Although it bears titles for each movement, the composer has not offered any definite programme, but the work is permeated with the atmosphere of the Atlantic coast of France, as is indicated by the picturesque titles of the three movements.
Toreador's Prayer
The subject of Turina's Quartet No. 2, ' The Toreador's Prayer ', is a picturesque one. Attached to every bull-ring in Spain is a private chapel for the use of bullfighters. A toreador before he makes his entrance into the ring enters this chapel and offers up a prayer for his success and safe return. This is a solemn ritual in the dangerous life of the bullfighter and one that he never misses.
This short movement was originally composed for four lutes and later transcribed for string quartet.

A dramatic reconstruction of a great naval feat of arms by Terence Horsley
On April 9, 1940, a British destroyer flotilla consisting of the ships Hardy, Hotspur, Hostile, Havoc, and Hunter, was cruising off the north-west coast of Norway between the Lofoden Islands and the mainland. Soon it was ascertained that a strong force of German destroyers had entered Narvik Fiord. The rest of the story with its Admiralty message to the Hardy's captain-' Use your own judgment'—is well known, and must rank as one of the great feats in British naval history.
Tertnce Horsley , with the help of Admiralty officials, has written this dramatic reconstruction of Narvik. You will hear the sort of things men said to one another, the way they thought, and how they actually went into action against a greatly superior force.
