at the organ of the Curzon Theatre,
Liverpool
This popular broadcaster is a Leeds man and held two cinema organ appointments there before leaving over three years ago. Like so many of his contemporaries he began as a church organist and learned to play at St. Chad's, Leeds. Later he became organist at St. John's-the oldest church in the city.
Henry Croudson is also a pianist of note. Some years ago, for a wager, he started an accordion band of unemployed men, which proved a great success in Yorkshire.

' Looking after your growing chicks'
Alan Thompson
The editor of The Feathered World, who himself keeps about 300 hens, chiefly Light Sussex, on his fourteen acres in Sussex and is therefore conversant with the ills that poultry is heir to, will continue his series of talks on rearing the wartime chick.
He will deal with the housing and feeding of growing pullets and will describe a novel way of preparing young cockerels for the table. He will comment on the prices of poultry food and make some reference to the rearing of ducks and geese.

Borodin's ' In the Steppes of Central Asia' was originally written as a musical background to one of a series of historical tableaux vivants shown during the celebrations of the silver jubilee of the Tsar Alexander 11 in 1880... The music illustrates the following scene: 'The silence of the sandy steppes of Central Asia is interrupted by the first sounds of a peaceful
Russian song. Then the melancholy refrain of an Oriental song is heard, and with it the tramp of horses and camels. A caravan escorted by Russian 'soldiers is crossing the immense desert, fearlessly continuing its long journey under the protection of the Russian troops. The caravan proceeds on its way. The songs of the Russians and those of the Asiatics gradually blend together in the same harmony ; their refrains are heard for some time and finally die away in the distance.'
Aaron Copland
Aaron Copland is one of the most distinguished of American composers. Born in New York in 1900, he studied music in Germany and France. Taking a great interest in contemporary music, he has been associated with most of the leading American organisations concerned with the propagation of modern music.
As a composer himself, he has written important compositions of nearly every kind, from Symphonies to Chamber Music, and Ballet to Choral works.
