From a city in the West Country
This evening and for the next three Sundays the evening services will be specially arranged for young people. When the first live question is answered, so far as it can be answered, tonight, three questions will come up for consideration in subsequent services. What is God doing ? What has God done in Christ ? What is God doing through the Church ?
After being vicar of St. Luke's, Newcastle, Mr. Greer, who will speak this evening, became General Secretary of the Student Christian Movement. Thus for many years he has been in close touch with young people, both in a working-class district in the North and in the colleges and universities of Great Britain.

Theatrical Charities by Will Fyffe
This appeal is in aid of the Variety Artists' Benevolent Fund, the Actors' Benevolent Fund, the Variety Artists' Ladies' Guild, and the Theatrical Ladies'' Guild—each of them organisations that take care of the poor and distressed stage artists and children of the profession.
Of all who are suffering as a result of the war, none has been more hardly hit than theatrical people. The calls on the charities have increased enormously, with very poor prospects of raising the necessary funds. Artists are always ready to help others, and this appeal should commend itself to every listener.

Haydn's set of String Quartets, Op. 76, is one of the crowning achievements of his life's work. They are . contemporary with the Creation and the London Symphonies. Two outstanding movements of the sixth Quartet in E flat are the slow movement, a fantasia with bold and original modulations, and the Trio of the Minuet. Of the latter Sir
Donald Tovey says that it is the most beautiful part of the quartet, consisting as it does ' wholly of the scale of E flat in iambic rhythm, descending and ascending with counterpoints as multitudinous and heavenly as the angels on Jacob's ladder '.

Rameau's opera Castor and Pollux is the second and probably the most successful of the composer's twenty-four stage works. It is a lyrical tragedy in five acts and a prologue, and was produced in 1737. Although the opera is no longer performed, some of its numbers are occasionally heard today.
The subject of the opera appealed to many other composers, and was particularly suited to the elaborate spectacle of eighteenth-century stage productions.
