Lynn Doyle gave four delightful talks on holiday aspects of Ulster in those days when holidays counted and we all looked forward to them. His imaginary village, ' Ballyguillion ', has featured in a great number of his stories. Many will remember reading one of his latest books, ' The Spirit of Ireland '.

Mrs. Abbey is the owner of the well-known Didgemere Herd of British Alpine goats, which she founded more than twenty years ago, a herd that has won many hundreds of prizes at all the leading shows. Goats from this herd have been exported to all parts of the world. She is also an official judge and member of the Committee of the British Goat Society.

Rachmaninoff has written four piano concertos, the last three of which retain an important place in the repertoire. The No. 1, in F sharp minor, however, is not so well known. It is a very early work, and later, in 1919, it was revised by the composer. It is dedicated to Siloti, who was one of Rachmaninoff's teachers when he was a pupil at the Moscow Conservatoire.
The music, as one might expect in a youthful work, is free from the composer's characteristic melancholy.

This is the evening which has pride of place for exiles from Scotland wherever they are gathered in the distant parts of che world to which they have gone forth from their native land. Tonight's programme is something in the nature of a radio pageant in which figures from Scottish history will come alive and re-echo incidents and events, each after his own fashion. These will not be confined to the royalties and dates of our history books, but will portray the qualities of the ordinary Scotsman down the ages ; his love of justice and liberty, equalled by his love of football and all the contrasting elements that go to make up his character.

Bud Flanagan and Chesney Allen first met during the last war at Poperinghe. After the war they parted, and for some time acted separately.
One day, however, Bud accepted an engagement in a touring show. To his astonishment he found that the ' straight man ' in the show was none other than his old friend Chesney Allen ! They became partners, and since then they have never looked back.

Jaromir Weinberger , the composer of the opera Schwanda the Bagpiper, was born in 1896 at Prague. He studied under Max Reger at Leipzig and in 1922 went to America as professor of composition at the Conservatorium of Ithaca.
His opera Schwanda the Bagpiper when produced in Germany some years ago proved an enormous success. It came to Covent Garden in 1933 and our audiences were hardly less enthusiastic. Schwanda is a first-rate entertainment: good tunes, colour, wit, and humour are its outstanding characteristics. The suite consists of five of the best and most tuneful numbers.
