Quartet in F, Op. 74, No. 2 played by The Kutcher String Quartet-Samuel Kutcher (violin) ; Max Salpeter (violin) ; Leonard Rubens (viola) ;
George Roth (cello)
Haydn's last sets of quartets, from Op. 71 onwards, belong to 'the time of his first London visit, when he was engaged in writing the famous ' London ' symphonies. The Quartets Op. 74 were composed in 1793 and dedicated to Count Apponyi. The No. 2, in F, to be played this evening, is the least known of the three. The finale is a good example of the use Haydn made of Slavonic folk-dance rhythm.

Conductor, Ian Whyte
While she was still at the Royal Academy,- Irene Scharrer did her first tour with Mrs. Patrick Campbell, acting as pianist, with W. H. Reed as fiddler, to the creator of the ' second Mrs. Tanqueray', who recited at a series of matinees throughout the country. Sir Henry Wood brought her out at the Proms as a little girl of fifteen. Sonata in F, for two violins and figured bass (The Golden Sonata)
Two songs: Retir'd from any mortal's sight (Richard II) ; Come, all ye songsters of the sky (The Fairy Queen)
Chacony (for string quartet)
Probably Margaret Field-Hyde has done more singing of early English songs in general and Purcell in particular than any other singer in this, country. Her enthusiasm for Purcell's music existed a good many years" before she decided to become a singer, and this enthusiasm was greatly increased by early successes in revivals of Purcell operas, especially King Arthur in Cambridge twelve years ago.
Recently she gave a recital of Elizabethan and Purcell songs at the National Gallery, and she seldom gives a song recital in which Purcell does not feature prominently.
