4/4. The New Establishment. Over the last few years, high society has been infiltrated by a new breed of aristocrats, forcing the old establishment to embrace celebrity or die. Now that hairdressers, chefs and gardeners are replacing Earls and Viscounts as people of distinction, are the servants becoming the masters? Lady Victoria Hervey describes how she used celebrity to create a new role for herself in the 21st century, while fashion designer Sir Paul Smith and chef Marco Pierre White represent the nouveau nobility.

Art and life became as one for Maria Callas in 1964 when, embroiled in a destructive love affair with Aristotle Onassis , she took the title role in Franco Zeffirelli 's production of Puccini's Tosca. The following year she played the part for the last time, which also proved to be her final performance on stage. Act Two, showing on BBC4 at 9pm, is the only dramatic role by Callas to have survived on film. Here, audio footage from Acts One and Three is played against a background of stills from her rendition. Those present at the time, including
Zeffirelli, Placido Domingo , conductor Antonio Pappano and impresario Alan Sievewright , recall an unsettled period in Callas's life. Showing as part of the Summer of Opera season. Director Steve Cole ; Producers Chris Hunt and Alan Sievewright
