Pop-tastic: DJs past and present relive their favourite moments in The Radio 1 Story

In the late sixties, when some thought pop music would change the world, British teenagers were just grateful that it could at least wake up the BBC. Celebrating Radio 1's 30th anniversary later this month, this documentary charts the station's progress from its limited beginnings, when it broadcast for less than six hours a day. It promises a whiff of scandal, dramatic departures including Kenny Everett, Dave Lee Travis and Chris Evans, and, of course, music as RT's John Peel recalls artists ranging from the Bay City Rollers to the Sex Pistols.
The evening continues with a tribute to one-hit wonders, a documentary about Chris Evans, a slice of rap music and a midnight session with 1997 Mercury prize-winners Roni Size and Reprazent. And keep your hankies at the ready for three outpourings of sentiment on Our Tune with Simon Bates.
