First of a two-part drama tracing the life of Dr Norman Bethune, a westerner who was revered by the Chinese people for more than 50 years.
Starring Donald Sutherland, Helen Mirren

Dr Bethune was complex man: a surgeon and an alcoholic, a womaniser and a Marxist.
Appalled by the rise of fascism in the thirties, he worked as a surgeon during the Spanish Civil War. He was then attached to Mao Tse-tung's 8th Route Army during the Japanese war of 1938-9, and laboured against the odds to bring medical care to the Chinese partisans.

In an edition considering computers and memory, Fenella George meets some of Britain's computing pioneers, including the world's first programmer Tom Kilburn, and looks at the rebuilt wartime Colossus, the first electronic computer. Benjamin Woolley talks to futurologist Peter Cochrane, who claims that human memories could soon be captured on computer chips. Plus there's a look at the pastime of retro-gaming, where people re-create the experience of playing computer games of the late seventies and early eighties.
