With the country's prison population at record levels, there is a demand for new buildings to house the convicted. Part of this is being satisfied by the private sector, which is taking the lead in constructing and managing prisons throughout the country.
In this investigation, showing as part of the occasional Scrutiny series, reporter Dinah Lammiman follows the Government's influential Home Affairs Select Committee and with them gains access to prisons around Britain and America. She also talks to MPs about their views and recommendations for the future of the British prison service.

Stonehenge. Although Stonehenge is one of the most famous structures in the world, little is known about how or why it was built. This documentary, first shown in last year's series about some of the great archaeological mysteries, uses a mixture of historical research and engineering knowledge to attempt to answer some vexing questions surrounding Stonehenge.
In the summer of 1995, hundreds of volunteers and labourers, led by engineer MarkWhitby, set up in afield in Wiltshire to create a replica of one of Stonehenge's trilithons-the familiar structure of two uprights capped by a horizontal lintel - in an attempt to solve the ancient riddle.
