Reflections on Elephants
Filming by day and night, Dereck and Beverly Joubert follow a clan of elephants as they lumber across northern Botswana.
This intimate portrait captures moments of tenderness and high drama: adult elephants co-operatingto rescue an infant in peril; a young bull fightingfor its life when attacked by lions; and the orphaned calf, destined to die, being saved by a foster mother with a young calf of her own already.
The sensitivity, memory and ability to communicate and collaborate which is displayed by these creatures leads the Jouberts to draw comparisons between elephants and human beings. Narrated by John Shrapnel. Producer John Sparks

A five-part series which tells the story of shopping from both sides of the counter.
Once upon a time there were no supermarkets. Memory conjures images of cosy food shops where the customer was right, but the reality was often slovenly service, high prices and poor hygiene. Then, in the 1950s, along came the American supermarket which introduced giant stores, low prices and free parking. Today, there are supermarkets in abundance, but are the human costs of out-of-town superstores too high a price to pay?
