Money laundering comes under scrutiny tonight as American author
Jeffrey Robinson suggests that London may be the money-laundering capital of the world. The practice ofturningthe proceeds of crime into what appears to be legitimate sources of income is the lifebloodofdrug dealers, fraudsters, smugglers and arms dealers. The amount of so-called dirty money in circulation at anytime has been estimated at£ 150 billion, much of it from the illicit drugtrade. The process has been made much easier by the increased use of electronic money transfers, which can move millions of untraceable pounds across the world at the touch of a button.
