Vladivostok ("Lord of the East"). It was a European spearhead into Asia; its crest became the majestic Siberian tiger. During the Cold War it flourished. But now, as Julian Pettifer reports, the city has had its day.
See today's choices.

Emmy award-winning docu-drama based on Randy Shilts's best-selling book and being shown to mark last Thursday's World Aids Day.
Starring Matthew Modine with Alan Alda, Phil Collins, Richard Gere, Anjelica Huston, Steve Martin, Ian McKellen and Lily Tomlin

1980: several cases of a rare skin cancer are reported among gay men in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. As the infection claims more and more lives, rival teams of scientists on two continents race to be the first to isolate what would become known as the Aids virus. This drama chronicles the early years of the Aids epidemic from the viewpoint of the young doctor who spearheaded the research in America, and the handful of individuals who fought political indifference, lack of funding, prejudice and ignorance to do battle with a deadly illness.
