The mighty Rank Organisation has just received local planning permission for an £80 million holiday village to be built in the unspoilt woodlands of Lyminge in Kent. Local residents, ornithologists and conservationists have joined forces with one of Westminster's most successful lobbyists to fight the plan. Jackie Spreckley reports.

The Truth about Porkies. Pigs have a bad name - we talk about "filthy pigs", "piggingout", "rotten swine", rooms "looking like pigsties". And the term
"pig", when applied to the police, isn't normally meant as a compliment.
Jonathan Meades visits his favourite beast in pigsties, back gardens, showgrounds and butchers' shops and sings the praises of an animal you can take to your heart.... literally.

Steve Berry visits the East Los Angeles Car Show for the low-down on Lowriders - a youth movement which embraces thousands of people from the city's large Hispanic community. In this unique form of car culture American cars from the 1940s to the present day are extravagantly decorated with ornate gold-plated wheels, acres of velour and custom-designed murals. Deep-marine batteries are loaded in the boot and the suspension is ripped out and replaced with hydraulic jacks that mean the cars can bunny hop down the road on demand. And it's not just the cars - there's the lifestyle, clothes and music to match. Plus, Tony Mason reporting on the RAC Rally.
