Live coverage of the second round of the 122nd Open Golf Championship from the Royal St George's Golf Club, Sandwich, Kent.
Defending champion Nick Faldo won his third title at
Muirfield a year ago, but the most successful Open competitor of recent years is undoubtedly American veteran Tom Watson , who won the trophy five times between
1975 and 1983. Sandwich is a classic windswept seaside links course with a punishing rough, and that could well favour a British player, though another American, Bill Rogers , won herein 1981. Amarkof the modem era's huge increases in sporting rewards is the fact that, in the 99 years since Open golf first came to Sandwich, the prize money pool has increased hugely from 1100 to 9 million. Commentary by Peter Alliss , Bruce Critchley , Alex Hay , Dave Marr , Clive Clark and Mike Hughesdon. Introduced by Steve Rider.

Elektra
The BBC Promenade
Concerts season opens with a performance of Richard Strauss 's dramatic one-act opera live from the Royal Albert Hall in London. Andrew Davis , Chief Conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, conducts this horrific story of obsession, murder and revenge in ancient Greece.
Davis says: "The Proms always end with Land of Hope and Glory, but this year we begin by entering a land of despair and gore through Richard Strauss 's inimitable adaptation of Greek tragedy. One hundred continuous minutes of the composer at his most powerful - sung by an exceptionally strong cast - should ensure a chilling and thrilling start to this great festival."
Introduced by James Naughtie. (soprano)
With the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Singers. Director Brian Large

The series of classic rock documentaries continues with a fly-on-the-wall rockumentary from 1974 capturing the hysteria which surrounded those ultimate teen idols and devout Mormons, the Osmonds. When dozens of weeny-boppers fell from the balcony at London's Heathrow Airport, the cameras were there. When the concert at Manchester was stopped, the cameras were there. And for ten days during their tour of Britain, wherever Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay, Donny and little Jimmy went, the cameras were there, too.
