Documentaries looking at the work of contemporary choreographers.
Last month John Cage ,
America's most original and influential composer, died in New York just short of his 80th birthday. Cage not only changed the world of music, he also influenced the fine arts and the world of dance. For 50 years, Cage and American choreographer Merce Cunningham formed a partnership that revolutionised how we see and think about dance. Judith Mackrell pays tribute and introduces Points in Space, a dance piece that was commissioned by the BBC from Cage and Cunningham and first shown in 1987. Barry Davies introduces live coverage from Flushing
Meadow, New York, of the last Grand Slam singles title to be decided this year.
Men's Singles Final
Sweden's Stefan Edberg dropped just six games as he overwhelmed Jim Courier in straight sets in last year's final to secure his first US Open title. Since then, however, it has been Courier who has made the headlines. This year the American has won the Australian and French championships on the way to becoming the World No 1. If the seedings go according to plan, Edberg and Courier should once again meet in the final. However, both players exited the recent Olympic Games tennis competition at an early stage, and are under pressure to maintain their high world rankings. With Andre Agassi 's win at Wimbledon, the United
States currently holds the three Grand Slam titles to be decided so far in 1992. Another
American success on home soil would see that country hold all four major titles in the men's game for the first time in 54 years. Commentary by John Barrett and Mark Cox.
