A fly-on-the-wall documentary series that chronicles a dramatic period in the history of the Labour-controlled London Borough of Lewisham.
A total projected overspend of £11.2 million in the education budget has resulted in the biggest crisis the Labour-controlled council has ever had to deal with. June Fisher, head teacher of Catford County Girls School, complains to the school governors that as a result of a reduction in resources, class sizes will have to increase.
In Lewisham overall, 120 teaching jobs have to go.
Parents and teachers take to the streets. Hundreds of protestors storm the town hall as members of the council struggle to find cuts that will bring the budget back into line. On top of everything else, local women and children, furious at the news that play centres may be closed, occupy the central library, demanding to see the council leader, Steve Bullock.
