A two-part education special. 2: Staying Power. Tricia is 17.
Like most young people her age in Britain she has left full-time education for good. In a specially-commissioned survey, young people all over the country explain why they are rejecting the education on offer and what might make them stay. Young people in the rest of Europe are staying on and gaining good qualifications. Are they brighter than we are? Or does their education system give them something ours doesn't? This programme looks at new ideas for turning a system based on failure into one founded on achievement.

When the Canaries
Stop Singing
Canaries were used by miners to alert them to the presence of poisonous gases underground. If a canary died, they knew the air was bad. This film is about human canaries - some of the first victims of a newly recognised and devastating illness emerging in America. People are being poisoned by some of the 60,000 chemicals in everyday use. A group of chemically ill people have found refuge in unusual homes in the clean air of the small Texan town of Wimberley - with painful and bizarre results. ProducerJohn Edginton EditorCaroline Pick
