Fourth in a six-part series about what it means to be black and European in the run-up to the single European market of 1992. France. Race and immigration issues were at the top of the French political agenda throughout the 80s, a time which saw the rapid growth of Europe's largest extreme right-wing party, the National Front. This summer there have been more violent clashes between French police and second generation Arab youths. But France's racial problems are not restricted to differences between blacks and whites.
