Of Big Bangs, Stick Men and Galactic Holes
The Big Bang theory is almost a complete explanation of the origins and structure of the universe. But it's coming under threat. Astronomers are finding great clusters of galaxies and vast empty voids in space - phenomena they cannot explain. And then there is the case of the missing matter. Nine tenths of the mass the universe should contain cannot be found. Far from being close to completion, the cosmological jigsaw is in danger of being broken apart.
