Keen As Mustard
Mustard gas demands 100 per cent protection because it affects all parts of the body.
Iraq has thousands of tons of it poised for use against allied troops in the Gulf. Forty years ago Japan posed a similar threat in the Pacific. No one knew what effect such a weapon would have on troops fighting in the tropics, so between 1942 and 1945, British doctors masterminded top-secret experiments in northern Australia involving more than 1,000 human guinea pigs. Horizon tells the harrowing story of the trials with the help of archive film which was once as secret as the actual tests.
