A series of films, each made by a different European country, profiling six very different architects who are contributing to the look of the new Europe. Germany: Volkwin Marg and Meinhard von Gerkan
The two Hamburg architects had barely qualified when they won their first competition - for Berlin's Tegel Airport. Since then their practice has designed six more airports as well as housing, shopping arcades, offices and, something of a speciality, multi-storey car parks. Their work is characterised by a strong feeling for the architecture of Hamburg. They see their greatest challenge as reconciling their duty to be
'modern' architects - masters of the materials, technologies and demands of their time - to their belief that such architecture should enhance, not distort or damage, the traditional fabric of their city. Narrated by Patrick Malahide. Director Ralph Quinke

Jason Robards , Martin Sheen Atlanta , 1979: the city's administrators and police are in a state of turmoil with crime figures rising and accusations of racial prejudice rife.
