A series of five wildlife films by the award-winning cameraman Simon King , who spent a year observing landscape, habitat and animals in the south of England. Simon presents an intimate view of the countryside as it changes through the seasons: a film chronicle of English wildlife, secret and yet accessible, familiar and yet deeply mysterious.
Coast and Estuary
Along the shoreline Simon films the courtship of little terns and watches a ringed plover
sheltering chicks during a rainstorm.

The third of four films with people who live in Britain but have roots abroad.
Beyond the Synagogue There are thought to be
330,000 Jews in Britain today. Many are the descendants of immigrants fleeing anti-
Semitism in Russia, Poland and Eastern Europe before the First World War, and theirs is a complex heritage. No single factor holds the community together, but overshadowing it is the memory of the Nazi holocaust with its continuing impact on succeeding generations. This film explores the identity of Britain's oldest immigrant group through the views of a contrasting group of women, from the religiously very orthodox to the secular, at a time when fears are growing that the community is shrinking.

The Story of Britain's Royal Builders and Collectors Told in ten parts by Huw Wheldon 6: George TV
He was gifted, wayward and original. He spent a fortune on paintings and palaces. In his youth he loved driving fast carriages, gambling and horse-racing. His affairs scandalised polite society. Yet no monarch has had a sharper eye for works of art. The Brighton Pavilion is a brilliant tour deforce, exotic and yet built with the most modern materials.
Huw Wheldon views the private apartments at Windsor Castle and admires the treasures of Sevres china, French furniture and sculpture they contain. In rebuilding the castle, George IV left a Permanent memorial to the splendid self-confidence that followed the defeat of Napoleon.
