A look back to the days of Pathe and Movietone newsreels with Bob Danvers Walker and Leslie Mitchell in conversation with Su Ingle. For more than 50 years the British cinemagoer was given a window on the world by the seven-minute newsreel. With the aid of original - and sometimes rare - footage, the two newsreel commentators recall the friendly rivalry between the companies to get that all-important 'scoop', and give a fascinating personal account of those historic, poignant and humorous world events which were brought to the people in the one-and-nines - almost as they happened.
This programme was Leslie Mitchell 's last appearance before his death in 1985 and provides a fitting tribute to a man whose distinctive voice and imperturbable manner made him a much respected figure in broadcasting. Written by MAURICE SELLAR and LOU JONES

Based on a true story from frontier history in the late
1870s, this epic Western was one of veteran director
John Ford 's last films. A group of Cheyennes decide to leave the Oklahoma reservation where they are being starved out of existence. They plan a 1500-mile trek to their old homelands in Wyoming. But the cavalry is forced by unsympathetic authority to halt the migration, and a revival of old hatreds - and war - seems inevitable.
