Presented by Professor Heinz Wolff
Everybody thinks they know how to make fire: you just rub two sticks together.
Unfortunately it is not so simple, and as one scout-master said, 'If you are going to use two sticks, make sure one of them is a match!' So when Heinz asks the teams to construct a machine that will make fire, they have a very difficult task ahead of them. Keeping things hot is guest judge Professor Ian Fells. Amazon - The Last Frontier Narrated by Robin Ellis In the Amazon region of Brazil, thousands of men search for gold, settlers move to the west and Indians defend their hunting lands.
It is, in 1985, an action replay of the tragedies and the drama of the American Wild West of a century ago.
One of the most formidable Indian tribes in Amazonia, the Waimiri-Atroari numbered over 3,000 in 1974. Today there are barely 400 left, after the building of Brazil's great north road to Guyana and Venezuela.
All over the Amazon region today, the Indians are under pressure from Brazil's development projects. The march into the rain forest is polluting rivers and destroying the ancient way of life of the tribes - but the Indians are fighting back. In this programme, the Brazilian Indians, the Apinaje, the Kaiapo, the Xavante and the Xerente, speak up for themselves in defence of their threatened lands and way of life. The BBC Television
International Sheepdog Championship
Introduced by Phil Drabble with Eric HalsaU
The current International Shepherds Champion, a farmer who grazes sheep on the rough slopes of Ben Lawers in Perthshire and a sheepman who's one of five shepherding brothers make up today's team as the trials continue at Chatsworth.
And from their farms we hear of the long and savage winters where snowdrifts can bury sheep for days on end and which the shepherd takes as part of his chosen way of life.
