For Diana, Princess of Wales, 1984 was a year of motherhood. Her pregnancy and the birth of Prince
Henry meant fewer public engagements, more time spent at home with her family. Prince William, meantime, has become almost a veteran. Tonight's programme chronicles his progress from the first glimpse he gave the world as a baby just a few hours old, to the latest pictures taken by Lord Snowdon of a hearty 21/2-year-old with his brother Prince Harry on his knee.

Lost World of the Medusa
On a remote Pacific island a mysterious lake lies hidden by dense jungle. Below the surface a gigantic shimmering phantom swims, tracking the sun. This weird life form is composed of jellyfish - millions of them - a boiling mass of medusae. Like the other bizarre inhabitants of the lake, imprisonment in this peculiar marine underworld has changed their behaviour.
But there are other surprises too in this first filmed exploration of the labyrinthine limestone islands of Palau - rain forests sprout from razor-sharp coral rubble; whip scorpions, giant crickets and bats haunt vast caves; and a deep lake pulsates with a strange presence.

The exuberant Ekdahl family celebrates a traditional Swedish Christmas. For 12-year-old Alexander this is a time of discovery - of his father's theatre, of the fantastic world of the magic lantern, and of his own talent as a teller of ghost stories. Ingmar Bergman has described Fanny and Alexander as the sum total of his life as a film-maker. The feature film which was edited from this TV serial won five of this year's Academy Awards.
