Ingmar Bergman's magical journey into childhood in three parts starring Bertil Guve as Alexander and Pernilla Allwin as Fanny

The exuberant Ekdahl family celebrates a traditional Swedish Christmas. For 12-year-old Alexander this is a time of discovery - of his father's theatre, of the fantastic world of the magic lantern, and of his own talent as a teller of ghost stories. Ingmar Bergman has described Fanny and Alexander as the sum total of his life as a film-maker. The feature film which was edited from this TV serial won five of this year's Academy Awards.
