An extended series of cinéma vérité documentary films which for a decade have eavesdropped on individuals and institutions in a particularly revealing way. The Family
In 1974 producer Paul Watson introduced to television the Wilkins of Reading. They were filmed day and night. Their prejudices. thoughts, hopes, fears and disappointments became public knowledge. It was the first time that the private life of an English family had been exposed with such candour and intimacy.
A critic of the time observed: ' The Family has created more controversy and press coverage than any other television programme.' This is a chance to see again a series that helped to change documentary film, and to evaluate ten years later the ups and downs of an urban family, who knew nothing of massive unemployment, economic recession, the Princess of Wales and Dallas.
