Riding on Air Narrated by Anthony Clare
An unusual, analytical took at how birds fly and how aeroplanes imitate them.... a lively and satisfying half-hour.
(THE DAILY TELEGRAPH)
Why is a Tornado like a gannet? The first is an RAF combat aircraft while a gannet is a bird that dives vertically for fish. The answer? Well, both use variable-geometry wings. Birds and aeroplanes ride the air by the same rules but how far do the similarities go?
Aircraft sometimes stall dangerously - but do birds? Why do some birds fly in 'V formations? And how have birds' wings made flying safer for everybody?

N'Pongo is pregnant. Quite how is a mystery. For Jambo - the Jersey Zoo's virile male gorilla - has all this time been penned in an adjoining den. While N'Pongo awaits the arrival of her fifth baby, an eminent zoologist is performing a delicate operation. Jambo lies anaesthetised in the zoo's operating theatre. Small electrical charges are passed through his body to make him ejaculate. Jambo is exceptionally fertile, his semen is in demand from zoos throughout the world.
As man's closest living relative will probably be extinct in the wild in about 20 years' time, it is through gorillas in captivity that the species has become a little less endangered. Its line becomes even surer, when N'Pongo finally prepares herself and gives birth, an event never before recorded. The baby is a girl - called Kumi.
