When Bubber Reeves escapes from the State Prison, the inhabitants of his small Texan town anticipate his return. During the night that follows tension mounts, and Sheriff Calder tries to control the situation. Inevitably tragedy strikes. Brando gives a characteristically brooding performance in this melodrama, leading a notable cast.
