Billy Wilder's screen version of George Axelrod 's famous comedy firmly established Marilyn as a major star and sex symbol. She displays an enormous talent for comedy as 'The girl' who rents an apartment upstairs from a middle-aged business executive and who innocently becomes the object of his sexual fantasies. In the role he originally created on Broadway, Tom Ewell is at his deadpan best as the grass widower with the 'itch' for infidelity.
