The French Open Championships Men's Final
BJORN BORG makes his return to tennis, attempting to win his sixth French title. By his standards, he has had an appalling year, having won only two tournaments since last year's Wimbledon. Because of a shoulder injury and a virus, he hasn't competed since Easter, when he lost in the first round at Monte Carlo. Also extremely keen to win is JIMMY CONNORS , who has never won a major clay-court title. Commentators

starring
Gena Rowlands , Peter Falk
This ambitious and harrowing drama focuses on a Los Angeles housewife whose sense of identity disintegrates as the film progresses. Mabel has subjugated herself to her husband's domineering love and the needs of her children, but is cracking up under the strain this imposes. Her husband Nick, loving but ignorant, copes with her growing eccentricities by filling her life with friends, relatives and contrived jollity, thus unwittingly precipitating the crisis. Mabel is stunningly acted by Gena Row lands and Peter Falk excels as the gruff and aggressive Nick in this characteristically powerful study of a mind in torment by director John Cassavetes.
