Leopold Dilg, accused of arson and the resulting death of a mill foreman, hides out in the house of pretty Nora Shelley. Michael Lightcap rents the house from Nora, believing Dilg to be her gardener. This delightful comedy is also notable for its social implications and satire, cleverly acted by its star cast and directed by veteran George Stevens.

Once More with Feeling
Starring Kay Kendall, Yul Brynner
Victor Fabian, an egotistical orchestral conductor, and his enchanting wife Dolly split up when she discovers him 'auditioning' a young pianist. But the separation causes complications - both professionally and emotionally - so that Victor decides he must win Dolly back. This light hearted and sophisticated comedy stars the late Kay Kendall in one of her best comedy roles.

Last year the annual Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Art was embellished by a series of cushion concerts, during which young people sat listening to music in the main gallery which was hung with some of the original works selected by the hanging committee.
In this special television recording, musicians and others involved in a concert are asked to select their particular choice of works from the 1981 Summer Exhibition. The music,

Bernard Levin talks to Anthony Burgess
ANTHONY BURGESS spent much of his early life convinced he would become a famous composer. He wrote his first symphony at 16.
Instead, after a period as a school-master, he became a prolific novelist, critic and linguist, a man of letters in every sense.
He has written 42 novels to date, the best-known being A Clockwork Orange, and the most massive his latest, Earthly Powers, which was tipped last year for the Booker Prize, but did not win.
Burgess now finds compensations in literary fame - his symphonies get played.

If the Music Had to Stop ...
Britain's musical reputation is second to none, and depends ultimately on an exceptional tradition of youth orchestras.
The educational ideals which underlie this tradition are exemplified in Leicestershire. Here, for the past 30 years, music and art have been central to school curricula; consequently, children of all backgrounds have had the opportunity to pursue a musical career. The present cuts threaten this unique tradition.
' Many of the things we've achieved and cared about will go under unless we fight.... It's a heritage too valuable to cast aside.'
