Pal Gabor 's complex film about a young girl starting her adult life in the new post-war Hungary has won a number of awards at film festivals around the world.
Vera Angi blames the hospital where she works for her mother's death. Lonely and resentful, she criticises the system at a staff meeting and is immediately recruited by officials of the emergent workers' party. Vera now has a chance to make a career - but her new life is full of pitfalls as well as opportunities.
