Previn Strauss completed his Alpine Symphony in 1915, describing it as ' the worship of nature, eternal and magnificent'. The music is full of colour and contrast, depicting in programme terms a day's journey in the Alps. The performance was filmed in the Musikverein, Vienna, and the Alpine scenes in Switzerland.

Werner Wild is a young man who embarks on the long apprenticeship to be a Master Baker because he likes to eat good bread. As he learns his trade, Werner becomes more and more obsessed with fighting the trend to automation and preserving traditional standards.
