This week: Rape
Is rape a crime against all women? Is the legal definition inadequate? Do the victims lead men on? Why do men rape?
Man Alive asked Anna Raeburn and David Munro to make this film enquiry. Since 1953 the recorded incidents of rape (many are not reported) in London alone have increased by over 1,000 per cent. As with all crimes of violence, the cruelty of attacks has reached terrifying proportions. It is now estimated that 30 women a day are raped for no other apparent reason than that they are 'fair game'.
Together with doctors, sex educators and psychologists, three rape victims and a rapist talk to Anna Raeburn; their stories reveal serious shortcomings of the law and, more important, of our society.
