To sample this year's agricultural delights, ANGELA RIPPON was joined by Elizabeth Eyden and farmers Joe Henson and Ted Moult. By the end of the day, they had at least taught Angela how to shear a sheep.

The Vital Spark
' Broken bones and severed nerves that seem to heal better in a magnetic field.'
' A theory that some living tissues behave like transistors.'
' New chemicals with puzzling abilities to conduct electricity.'
These are the elements in a story that traces some of the mysteries that link electricity to living creatures. Many of the theories are being received sceptically by mainstream scientists. But increasing numbers of researchers are beginning to believe that the textbooks do not yet tell the whole story. If they are right, their work on bio-electricity could open a new window on the processes of life. Narrator PAUL VAUGHAN
