starring
Paul Newman , Patricia Neal
Melvyn Douglas , Brandon de Wilde Author Roald Dahl had no hesitation in choosing the film in which his wife, Patricia Neal , won an Oscar as the movie he would most like to see on television. She plays the housekeeper to a Texas cattleman and his moody selfish son. Paul Newman earned an Oscar nomination with his gritty, unremitting performance as the hard-drinking, womanising Hud whose life is a constant negation of his father's qualities and ideals.

The programme in which the BBC hands over air time to the public.

Tonight: Just a Link with the Wild presented by Ed Seager of the Wildlife Youth Project, Mossley

'As a child, I robbed birds' nests of their young. At 15, I bought a young hawk stolen from its nest by a friend, and tried to teach it to hunt. It escaped into the wild again. With its escape came the realisation that if we help each other to understand the wild, we teach ourselves. Barry Hines, author of Kes, joins me and the young people involved in our link with the wild.'
