Secrets on the Wing with Stephen Dalton
Taken in a fraction of a millisecond of airborne action, Dalton's ' in flight ' photographs of insects and birds like the blue tit, owl and woodpecker, have won him a worldwide reputation as a master craftsman.
We follow Dalton from the temperate ' jungle ' of the Sussex countryside, to the South American cloud forests of Venezuela, as he breaks through the technical barriers of insufficient light intensity and slow shutter speed.
With his new high-speed technique he captures, especially for this programme, remarkable studies of hawk moths, heliconid butterflies, and harlequin beetles. They reveal, in each wing beat, the complex beauty of the miracle of flight.
