Christian Bonington, CBE painted on location in the Lake District by Alexander Goudie
An American artist once described a portrait as ' a picture in which there is something wrong with the mouth'. A view shared by CHRIS BONINGTON : Is my mouth as cupidish as that? ' he asked the artist. 'No, but a great portrait always contains an element of caricature.' Bonington got his own back by hauling the artist up a crag ' Just to experience the tactile feel of the rock'.
